TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Teachers must consider all students as individuals, who hold their own interests, experiences, backgrounds and preferred learning styles. It will be my aim and job to provide an adequate learning environment where all my students can achieve their best academically and socially. I want to create a democratic and equitable classroom where all students are active participants and there is a strong sense of trust with me, the teacher, and amongst peers. The quality of an educator’s relationship with students has a large impact on student learning and behaviour and directly effects motivation. I believe students learn from their environment, their social interactions and build and construct knowledge from their experiences. I believe student learning is achieved through engagement and participation with material they perceive as meaningful (allowing them to personally connect with the content) and related to their world and context. Thus, learning is a collaborative approach that links students pre-existing knowledge, their culture and their developmental stage to their interests and motivation for success. I will aim to provide a culturally responsive classroom where all students can share their experiences and feel safe to express oneself.
